Yesterday we had another assembly at work for all the students. Although there are rules set into place and everyone knows what they are some folks try to act like the rules don't apply to them. I have never truly understood why it is that a few will continually make trouble for the rest.
Now I understand that things happen and people can want a rule broken here and there but come on folks! When it comes to state laws and regulations, those just can't and shouldn't be broken.
After the meeting was over the students were talking about it. One told the group that all they had to do was follow the rules that I had taught them and no one would get fussed at. I was pleased to learn that indeed! It seems I am a hard person to work with. I expect folks to do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it and not slack off. I am the teacher not the babysitter and although I truly love each of my students in time I am not their friend or their Momma. Strangely no matter how much they reject my ways after they leave my class they come back to ask me questions when it is time for their finals.
No one forced these students to come to class they asked to attend. They asked to be taught how to work with clients. This means they can't speak ugly or offensively. This means they have to learn to keep things clean. This means they have to learn to act professionally. Anyone can pull a comb through hair and pretend they are stylists. It takes work and practice to become a stylist. Cos is not for the weak willed. Cosmetologists are a wonderful, wise and talented group of people who are professionals. I know as cos students my classroom knows this. I wish that once they leave my classroom a few more would remember it.
