Mini Boards
Where I work they have a test at the end of each level called Mini Boards. The idea of the test is to practice the state test as closely as we can set up in order to assure our students being comfortable and capable when their day comes to actually take the state test for their license. This test is given as a requirement to leave the Junior Class, Second Division as well as First Division. Today is the test for this month. My students who are eligible have been preparing for this since their first day in school. Yesterday I gave them time to make certain all their supplies were in order, and I watched. I believe all five of this months candidates are capable and able to pass their tests. Yesterday though I saw something I was very impressed with. While three of the students were checking and packing and folding and sorting again and again in nervous energy, two students sat themselves slightly out of the group and went over the test step by step. First one did the service while the other watched. Then they discussed the result. Then they switched sides and repeated the process. They did this on each procedure. I was/am impressed. These two are SO READY and more. They complimented each others work. They hit on whatever they saw lacking but spent most of the time telling each other how well they did, building up each others spirit and self esteem. I am really proud of these two students. They show such potential to go far in this field.

Hi! this is a great blog. I am not in cosmetology school, but the topics are very interesting (actually, I have always been intrigued with attending beauty school, but I think I would be nervous all the time.). Thanks for sharing great info.
ReplyDeleteTnaks for your comment. I hope you continue comeing here and checking the site out. As for being nervous... that isn't really a bad thing at all. I have a very nervous nature but I LOVE doing things for others and nurturing people. So, I take that nervous energy and put it to work trying to make customers comfortable and doing everything I can to make their experience a pleasant one. Maybe you could tour a school near you or go in for a service and talk with the student that gives you your service and check things out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your candor and suggestions. I have several schools near me, so I should investigate. It really has always been a dream of mine. When I was younger I used to love doing people's hair, and I am intrigued by the science of it all.
