Practice

A student was telling me recently that her family was asking her why she didn't know how to cut their hair yet. After all she is in beauty school. Okay she IS in school, but let's get real, she has almost 50 hours so far! Even if the state is off in demanding they get 1500 hours isn't 50 a bit pushing it here?

I tell students to go home and find someone who loves them to practice on. But, when they first start I mean manicures, pedicures, facials and styles. I wish I could make people see that these students don't need any extra pressure put on them. These adults have made a decision to change their lives for the better. Cosmetology isn't really an easy class for most people. They have to learn anatomy, diseases of the skin and nails and more technical stuff along with the fun of the services. Please, if anyone reads this that has a loved one in cosmetology school, support them. Give your loved ones support and understanding. Try not to push them to do things they haven't even covered in class yet. Make all efforts possible not to put them in a position where they will become discouraged. Their future success is what is important. They are worth waiting on.
