Student Instructor

One more task in my job description is to teach the first 200 hours out of a 600 hour program for a student instructor. From time to time they come into the classroom. Always eager to start their teaching career. Much of the time they have been doing cosmetology for several years and love it so much they wish to share their knowledge with others. Which is a great thing indeed. But, teaching how to do something is far different than the doing of it. And teaching theory when you have been out of school for years is not so easy at all. I am fortunate enough that I currently have a student instructor in the classroom with me. She has fantastic skills and abilities in cosmetology. She did her first practical lesson today, which was how to do a french roll - vertical twist. She did a really good job at it too. She has fantastic potential. Next week she will also begin teaching theory. She looked a bit timid when I explained her first theory assignment. But, I think she will pull it off quite well.
